Hello - at Fern Avenue Community Garden we have many fruit trees. Some, like the fig and olive trees have expert care. However a bulk of stone fuit and citrus trees are largely uncared for. We are hoping to arrange a half day practical workshop (??) on fruit tree maintenance and are looking either for an established course or someone with the necessary experience and desire to arrange a small course.

Topics might include:

 - shaping/pruning - with hands on demo for variety of trees
 - feeding
 - thinning of crop (our apples where well over bourne this year)
 - harvest (eg: pears - when to pick)
 - protection of crop (sun, bugs, disease)

Has any one suggestions on:

 - who might be able to arrange this course - we're happy to fund appropriately,
 - when in the year it would be a good idea to practically demonstrate pruning and shaping the Fern Avenue trees

Thanks and regards,

  matt

The best time to prune the trees in the spring season.
Since, the sun light will not be think on these days, and the trees can withstand with minimal number of leaves for photo synthesizing.
So, in spring you can prune.
